GENERATOR TROUBLESHOOTING // GENERAL PROBLEMS

This is a general guide to help troubleshoot problems with a generator and is not a substitution for professional service. Consult an authorized dealer for professional service if these general tips do not correct the problem.

Engine is running, but there is no AC output:

  • One of the circuit breakers is open - reset circuit breaker
  • Poor connection or defective cord set - Inspect and repair
  • Fault in generator - consult your local dealer

Engine runs good at no-load but "bogs down" under load:

  • Short circuit in a connected load
  • Engine speed is too low
  • Generator is overloaded
  • Shorted generator circuit
  • Clogged or dirty fuel filter

Engine will not start or starts and runs rough:

  • Start switch in off position
  • Fuel valve is in the off position
  • Failed battery (if equipped)
  • Low oil level
  • Dirty or clogged air filter
  • Bad fuel, clogged or dirty fuel filter
  • No, or bad spark
