When a saw loses power or doesn’t engage properly, the quickest and usually cheapest check is the belt. Before replacing the belt and installing it only to end up with the same issue, check if something is causing the belt to slip or bind. On the K770 saws specifically, the front belt pulley uses a braking system that engages when the saw isn’t at full RPMs to slow the blade down. This means when the saw isn’t fully engaged, it is working against itself, also causing premature wear to the belt. Another quick check is for worn clutch shoes or loose springs in the clutch. This can cause the clutch to not engage and make it act similar to a loose or worn belt.
