The Honda 18325-ZG1-701 Lower Muffler Protector is a genuine OEM part designed for the HR173 lawn mower. As a direct Honda replacement, this component is manufactured to the same standards as the original, ensuring a correct fit without rework or modification. If you're restoring or servicing an HR173, confirm your machine's serial number against the fitment table to make sure this is the right revision for your unit.
Key Features
- Genuine Honda OEM — sourced directly from Honda, this protector matches the original part in form and fit for the HR173 lawn mower.
- Direct Replacement — designed as a drop-in replacement for the HR173, this part installs without additional hardware or adaptation.
- Serial Number Matters — Honda updates parts at production breaks, so cross-check your mower's serial number against the fitment table before ordering to confirm compatibility.
- Heat and Contact Shielding — the lower muffler protector guards nearby components and operator contact points from the heat generated by the exhaust system, keeping the mower safe during operation.
The lower muffler protector is a heat shield fitted beneath the muffler on the HR173 lawn mower. It acts as a barrier between the hot exhaust system and surrounding components — as well as any inadvertent operator contact with that area of the machine. When the protector becomes cracked, corroded, or missing, it leaves heat-sensitive parts and users exposed to the muffler's operating temperatures. Replacing a damaged protector restores the muffler assembly to its intended condition and keeps the mower operating as Honda designed.
