The Honda 54530-VB4-701 Brake Cable is a genuine OEM Brake Cable designed for the HRM195 lawn mower. As a direct Honda OEM component, this cable is manufactured to the same specifications as the original, ensuring the brake system operates exactly as intended. This part is built for the HRM195 and carries part number 54530-VB4-701 — confirm that number against your mower's serial tag before ordering, as Honda supersedes parts at production breaks.
Key Features
- Genuine Honda OEM Construction — manufactured by Honda to match the original cable in length, end fittings, and housing, so the brake engages and releases with the same feel and travel as a new mower.
- Direct OEM Replacement — this cable is engineered to drop into the HRM195 without modification, connecting to the existing brake lever and blade-stop mechanism precisely as the original did.
- Brake System Integrity — a stretched, frayed, or kinked brake cable prevents the blade-stop from engaging fully; replacing it with this genuine part restores consistent, predictable stopping response.
- Verify Before You Order — Honda updates part numbers at serial-number breaks, so cross-reference part number 54530-VB4-701 against your HRM195's serial number using Honda's parts lookup to confirm this is the correct cable for your unit.
The brake cable on a walk-behind lawn mower is the mechanical link between the operator bail handle and the blade-stop mechanism. When the operator releases the handle, the cable transmits that motion to disengage the blade and halt the engine or blade rotation, depending on the mower's design. Over time, the inner wire can stretch, fray, or corrode inside the housing, causing sluggish engagement or preventing the blade-stop from functioning reliably — conditions that compromise both performance and control. Replacing a worn cable with a genuine OEM part restores the precise cable tension the system was designed around.
