A worn impeller is one of the most common reasons a trash pump stops pushing water, and is an easy one to overlook. You can check your impeller and see if there are deep grooves or chips around the fins of the impeller. If there are, it is likely your impeller is wearing, and the pump is allowing water to go over the impeller instead of around it. This means the pump won’t push water out, and can even stall the machine. Another popular method instead of replacing the impeller is to shim your impeller, but if the impeller is overly worn, shimming will not fix the issue.
