As engine RPM rises, the shoes expand against the clutch drum, transmitting torque to the exciter and generating the vibration force that compacts the material beneath the plate. When clutch shoes wear thin, glaze over, or crack, the clutch slips under load — the engine races but compaction force drops noticeably, and heat builds up rapidly within the clutch housing.
