The Honda 23421-VA3-J52 First Drive Gear (14T) is a genuine OEM component designed for HR195, HR215, and HRA215 lawn mowers. As a direct Honda OEM part, this gear is manufactured to the exact tooth count and dimensional tolerances the original drivetrain requires. This part is the correct specification for the HR-series mowers listed, but Honda supersedes drive components at serial-number breaks, so confirm your mower's serial number against the fitment table before ordering.
Key Features
- Genuine OEM Drive Integrity — sourced directly from Honda, this 14-tooth gear matches the original tooth profile and engagement geometry for smooth, consistent power transfer through the mower's drive system.
- Exact Tooth Count — the 14T specification is what sets this gear apart from other drive gears in the transmission; installing the wrong tooth count disrupts the gear ratio and drive speed, so matching this number to your unit is essential.
- HR-Series Compatibility — designed specifically for HR195, HR215, and HRA215 lawn mowers, including multiple production runs across those platforms.
- Serial Number Verification Recommended — Honda updates drivetrain components at production serial breaks; check your mower's serial number against the compatibility table to confirm this is the right variant for your machine.
The First Drive Gear (14T) is a key component within the self-propel transmission of the HR-series walk-behind lawn mower. It meshes with the transmission's gear set to transfer power from the engine to the drive wheels, setting the overall ground speed the mower travels at during operation. When this gear wears, chips, or loses teeth, drive engagement becomes erratic or fails entirely — the mower either loses self-propel function or moves at an incorrect speed — making replacement necessary to restore proper forward motion.
