The Honda 23440-VA3-J03 Shift Shaft is a genuine OEM replacement designed for HR195, HR215, and HRA215 lawn mowers. As a direct Honda OEM part, it is manufactured to the same specifications as the original component it replaces, ensuring a proper fit without reworking or adapting adjacent hardware. This Shift Shaft is the correct replacement for HR195, HR215, and HRA215 mowers — confirm your unit's serial number against the fitment table before ordering, as Honda supersedes parts at serial breaks and the correct part can vary within the same model line.
Key Features
- Genuine Honda OEM Part — manufactured to the original specification for the HR195, HR215, and HRA215 drive system, so engagement feel and travel are consistent with what left the factory.
- Direct OEM Replacement — replaces the original Shift Shaft on matching mowers with no modification to surrounding components.
- Serial Number Verification Recommended — Honda updates part supersessions at production breaks, so cross-check your mower's serial number against the fitment table to confirm part number 23440-VA3-J03 is correct for your specific unit.
- Restore Proper Drive Engagement — a worn or damaged shift shaft causes imprecise or unresponsive drive selector operation; replacing this component returns clean, positive shifting between drive modes.
The shift shaft is the mechanical link in the mower's drive selector system, translating the operator's input at the control lever into movement that engages or disengages the self-propelled drive. When this shaft wears, bends, or breaks, the drive selector becomes sluggish, fails to engage fully, or loses the ability to hold a selected position. Replacing this part restores direct, responsive control over the mower's propulsion, which is especially important on the HR-series mowers where precise drive engagement determines both operator effort and cutting consistency.
