Honda 31610-ZE2-835ZE Control Box Assembly (EXP-Alert) (Power Red)

The Honda 31610-ZE2-835ZE Control Box Assembly (EXP-Alert) (Power Red) is a genuine OEM component designed for GX270 horizontal shaft engines. As a direct Honda replacement, this assembly matches the original specification for the GX270 and ensures the engine protection circuitry operates exactly as Honda intended. Confirm your engine serial number against the fitment table before ordering, as Honda supersedes and revises control assemblies at specific serial breaks, and part number 31610-ZE2-835ZE applies to a defined production range within the GX270 line.

Key Features

• Genuine Honda OEM Assembly — sourced directly from Honda, this control box matches the original part in form and function, with no modifications needed to fit the GX270 engine.
• EXP-Alert Protection System — houses the Engine Protection Alert circuitry that monitors critical engine parameters and intervenes before damage occurs, keeping the GX270 running within safe operating limits.
• Power Red Finish — this variant carries the Power Red color designation; confirm this matches your original unit before ordering, as alternate finish variants exist for the same engine series.
• Serial Number Verification Recommended — Honda revises control assemblies at production breaks within the GX270 series, so cross-check your engine serial number against the fitment table to confirm part number 31610-ZE2-835ZE is correct for your unit.

The Control Box Assembly (EXP-Alert) is the central housing that contains Honda's Engine Protection Alert system electronics. On GX270 horizontal shaft engines, this system monitors operating conditions — such as low oil level — and signals the engine to shut down or reduce power before internal damage occurs. When the control box fails or its circuitry is compromised, the protection system can no longer respond correctly, leaving the engine vulnerable to damage from conditions it would otherwise detect and act on.
